From 12 August 2026, packaging placed on the EU market is subject to Regulation (EU) 2025/40 (PPWR), which requires clear labelling to facilitate collection and recycling and to correctly inform the consumer about the packaging's final destination.
To find out more about the PPWR and about who is responsible for what along the supply chain, read our dedicated article PPWR: what it means for anyone creating their own packaging with Packly.
Packly provides a set of editable symbols for the environmental labelling of your packaging, useful for clearly and compliantly indicating the packaging's material composition.
The symbols include the main material identification codes, among which:
- Pap 20 - Corrugated cardboard (e.g. Bag-in-Box)
- Pap 21 - Cardboard (e.g. a tuck-end box made of 350 gsm SBS or 280 gsm white FBB)
- Pap 22 - Thin paper (e.g. tissue paper)
Packly materials should be disposed of in the paper waste stream, subject to verifying your local council's regulations.
These codes can be added to the print file at the graphic design stage, to correctly inform the consumer about the material used and make correct disposal/recycling easier.
The text in the file is fully editable, so you can adapt the symbols to the specific material chosen for your project (e.g. corrugated cardboard, cardboard, thin paper) simply by replacing the code and the corresponding wording, while keeping the artwork consistent with environmental labelling standards.
