US customs rules have changed significantly since 2025. Here is what you need to know when ordering from Packly with delivery to the United States.

Customs duties: since 29 August 2025, the minimum exemption threshold no longer exists: previously, orders under $800 in value could enter duty free, but today every commercial shipment is subject to formal customs clearance and duty, regardless of value.

For goods of EU origin, including packaging produced by Packly, the duty is now capped at a maximum of 15% (the higher of the ordinary customs tariff and 15%), as provided for by the trade agreement between the European Union and the United States of August 2025, implemented through EU Regulations 2026/1455 and 2026/1461. Some specific product categories are exempt (for example pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, timber, aircraft), none of which concern packaging.

VAT-equivalent tax: the United States does not apply a federal value added tax to imports, so there is no VAT-equivalent charge for parcels destined for the US.

In practice, for your orders: the duty is calculated on the value of the goods declared at customs and should be factored into your overall budget, especially for lower-value orders that were previously exempt.
